Recently, after the concert, one ear started to hurt, but only one ear. I suspect it was more exposed to noise as I was sitting against the wall. How long after the concert should persistent earache worry me and require consultation? How to protect yourself against noise at music events?
Ear pain after exposure to noise may be related to the excessive work done by the stapes muscle, which stiffens the ossicular chain, protecting the inner ear from excessive noise. The pain should go away after a few days. Protection against excessive noise involves the use of ear muffs. In the simplest form, these are the so-called stoppers to close the external ear canal and can be purchased at a pharmacy.
