Flatulence is on the list of SIBO symptoms. Can they be a sign of bacterial overgrowth then? This question was answered by a gastroenterologist and gastroenterologist, Dr. Dariusz Maj from the Damian Medical Center in Warsaw.

- Flatulence may suggest that it is SIBO, but generally flatulence is also a very little characteristic symptom that cannot be adapted to one disease entity. It can be a symptom of many different diseases , but indeed, if someone feels bloated, we can recognize SIBO, especially if they appear after foods with a high sugar content - said Dr. Dariusz Maj in an interview with the He alth Guide.

SIBO syndrome may occur, among others, when they occur:

  • functional and motor disorders(e.g. IBS irritable bowel syndrome),
  • anatomical abnormalities(e.g. intestinal stricture or postoperative adhesions),
  • metabolic and systemic diseases(e.g. diabetes, cirrhosis, cystic fibrosis),
  • immune system disorders(e.g. IgA deficiency),
  • other factors(e.g. symptoms of diverticulosis, advanced age).
