Hello! I am 19 years old and in 1.5 weeks I am due to have back surgery - problems with lumbar discs. Before these problems, I was a very active person, I trained ballroom dancing, ballet and modern dance, as well as horse riding for 12 years. I would like to know what exercises will be good after the surgery so that I can get back in shape as soon as possible. Will swimming, for example, be the best in all this? I would like a little hint. Thank you in advance and best regards. Danka
Unfortunately, the doctor must comment on the type of exercises that you will be able to do after the surgery. It all depends on what type of surgery it is and what the result will be. After the surgery, isometric exercises to strengthen the deep back and abdominal muscles, performed with the help of a physiotherapist, may be the best for you. But I emphasize once again that the final decision regarding the type of exercise, including swimming, should be made by the doctor.
