Gyms, fitness clubs and many other sports facilities resumed operations on June 6, and since then, you can successfully return to training. However, the holidays and beautiful weather made many people wait for September 1st. See what you need to remember when going to the "strength" after a long break and during a virus pandemic.

Gyms and fitness clubs started on June 6 - do you still remember the times when they were closed? Most of the activities are fully allowed, but under certain conditions. Activities under certain sanitary conditions resumed:

  • fitness clubs
  • gym
  • swimming pools
  • playrooms
  • amusement parks.

Of course, gyms and fitness clubs must be properly prepared, there is a limit to the number of people in training, mandatory disinfection and many other rules, including greater distance from each other.

Safety rules for customers at the gym and in the fitness club

Recommended:

  1. Informing or familiarizing yourself (by e-mail, on the spot) with the new regulations on the safe use of the client's gym / fitness club and exercise equipment.
  2. Placing information on the maximum number of participants in the gym / fitness club at the entrance and each room (in the case of separate gyms).
  3. Providing information for people from high-risk groups (people over 60 years of age or suffering from chronic diseases, including obesity), about considering the decision to exercise during the least popular hours, without the presence of other people or to refrain from using the gym / fitness until the epidemic threat ceases.
  4. Placing the infographic / poster in a visible place regarding the compliance with specific sanitary safety guidelines in a given facility, posting information on the facility's website.
  5. Maintaining a distance of at least 2 m between clients and employees of the gym / fitness club; it is recommended to designate zones on the floor to ensure that appropriate distances between participants are maintained.
  6. Placing exercise equipment at appropriate distances from each other - at least 1.5 m or exclusion from use of equipment that is permanently attached and does not meet the specified distance or allowing use every secondmachines at the same time - supervision is carried out by the club staff.
  7. Scheduling a technical break during the day for the purposes of surface disinfection and room ventilation.
  8. Ensuring, if possible, constant airing of all rooms in the gym / fitness club.
  9. In the case of equipping the facility with a mechanical supply and exhaust ventilation system - maintaining strict rules regarding the high rate of air exchange in the facility, by supplying the facility (if technically possible) with mainly fresh - atmospheric, adequately treated air with as little as possible by adding air from the circulation system, and then removing the used air outside the facility. Do not use the above-mentioned mechanical ventilation with heat recovery - recuperation. Cross and rotary heat exchangers used in air handling units are allowed.
  10. Depending on the size of the gym / fitness club, a limited number of indoor clients is allowed (1 person per 10 m22 ).
  11. Hand sanitizer dispensers should be available to customers in the entrance / reception area and at the exit of the toilets and each exercise room.
  12. It is recommended to provide a disinfectant at each training zone within the line of sight of training people.
  13. Each device used by the customer should be disinfected after completing the exercise. The activity is carried out by the client on the basis of visible information / instructions using the provided disinfectant; if possible, it is recommended that customers use their own aids - such as a mat.
  14. Disinfect the reception desk after each client and make sure that there is 1 person at the reception desk - designating zones on the floor to ensure adequate distances between clients in front of the reception desk.
  15. Possibility of the operation of saunas, solariums, relaxation zones, jacuzzi, shower cabins, wet zones depending on applicable law.
  16. Do not use hand blower dryers.
  17. It is recommended that the clothes lockers be disinfected before and after customer use.
  18. Disinfection of toilets should be performed at least every 2 hours during peak hours (on working days from 4 pm); limit the number of people staying in the toilets at the same time - 1 person is assumed for 2 cabins / toilets.
  19. Increased disinfection of self-service spaces, including self-service entrance sluices, fingerprint or biometric readers, vending machines.
  20. It is allowed to operate gastronomic parts zwith the proviso that they will be organized in accordance with the rules described in the guidelines for gastronomic facilities.
  21. Customers who grossly violate the security rules are subject to a warning by the staff and, as a last resort, may be asked to leave the facility with immediate effect.

Safety rules for gym employees

  1. Employees of sports facilities should be instructed that in the event of alarming symptoms they should not come to work, stay at home and call a GP for medical advice; the infectious diseases ward, and if your he alth deteriorates, call 999 or 112 and inform them that they may be infected with the coronavirus.
  2. Clubs / gyms are obliged to provide: - for employees, regardless of the basis of employment, protective masks or helmets as well as disposable gloves or hand disinfectants, - the possibility of keeping a distance of at least 1.5 m between employees, unless it is impossible (then use personal protective equipment).
  3. Work should be organized taking into account the shift and rotation system and the necessary staff reserve in case of an increase in epidemic risk.
  4. It is recommended to limit the use of common areas by employees, including: - introducing different hours of breaks, - reducing the number of employees using common areas at a given time (e.g. by spreading breaks for meals).
  5. Particular care should be taken for employees from groups more exposed to epidemic risk - if possible, not to involve people over 60 in direct contact with the client. and chronically ill.
  6. Guidelines for employees: - before starting work, immediately after coming to work, it is obligatory to wash your hands with soap and water, - wear a nose and mouth protection, possibly a helmet and protective gloves while performing their duties; if it is impossible (strength exercises) - maximally increase the distance between people (minimum 2 meters), - keep a safe distance from clients and colleagues outside the workplace (1.5 m at the workplace, beyond the recommended minimum 2 m), - regularly, wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water, according to the instructions at the washbasin, and disinfect your dry hands with a detergent based onalcohol (at least 60%), - when coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or a tissue - throw the handkerchief into a closed bin as soon as possible and wash your hands, - try not to touch your hands around your face, especially your mouth, nose and eyes, - use only your utensils and accessories (such as a towel, a bottle of water), - make every effort to ensure that the workplace is clean and hygienic, before, during and after the workday. You should remember to disinfect touch surfaces, such as handles, handrails, benches, bars, but also switches for lights or devices. Regularly (several times a day) clean common areas with which customers come into contact; - avoid commuting to work by public transport, if possible.
  7. One of the most important issues in preventing the spread of the coronavirus is keeping your hands clean - washing them frequently with soap and water or disinfecting them (if your hands are not visibly contaminated). Hand hygiene is recommended: - before and after working with the client, - after touching banknotes / credit cards, door handles, etc., - before touching the mouth, nose or eyes, - after contamination of hands with secretions from the respiratory tract, e.g. in case of coughing or sneezing - before and after using the toilet, - before entering the staff room, - before and after a meal or drinking.
  8. Wearing gloves is not a substitute for washing your hands.
