In connection with the first cases of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus causing COVID-19 in Poland, Minister of He alth Łukasz Szumowski issued an official letter with the latest recommendations.

According to the minister of he alth, the most important things in the fight against the coronavirus are knowledge, access to reliable information, as well as maintaining peace and common sense. The minister reassured that other types of coronavirus have long been known in Poland and cause only minor infections of the upper respiratory tract. He also emphasizes that about 80 percent of coronavirus infections are mild.

COVID-19 and the flu - main recommendations

The symptoms and course of COVID-19 are almost identical, so the Minister of He alth recommends caution in both influenza and SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus infections to avoid complications. In both cases, the most important thing ishygiene(i.e. thorough hand washing) andavoiding people coughing and sneezing .

The letter also tells about how we should act in three cases:

1. Ifwe haven't been abroad recently in high-risk regions , andwe have flu-like symptoms , i.e. fever over 38o , coughing or shortness of breath - we should consult our GP.

2. Ifhas been in theoutbreak in the last 14 days (i.e. Northern Italy, China, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore or Taiwan) andwe have disease symptoms , i.e. at least 38ofever and cough - we should contact the Sanitary Inspectorate as soon as possible and go to the nearest infectious diseases hospital, but what is important - not by public transport.

3. If, on the other hand,we have recently been abroad in high-risk areas , butwe have no disease symptoms- we should measure our body temperature twice a day and limit our contacts escort for the next 14 days. In case of doubt, call the nearest sanepid or the hotlineNHF.
