A new study published in the journal "Fertility and Sterility" found that men who were infected with COVID-19 had decreased sperm counts and decreased mobility for up to two months after infection. Research work has not yet been reviewed.

A study by local scientists on 120 men in Belgium showed that COVID-19 infection cannot be transmitted through sexual contact. It turns out, however, that men after infection show a reduction in sperm quality.

As research suggests, experts warn that couples planning to extend their family should be warned that sperm quality after COVID infection may be suboptimal. Scientists estimate, however, that sperm levels should return to normal around three months after infection.

"Sperm quality parameters were most severely damaged in the first month," the researchers say. More research is needed to see if the damage to the sperm count can be permanent in a small minority of men.
